About Classical Pilates
What Is Classical Pilates?
Classical Pilates is the original method developed by Joseph Pilates, also known during his lifetime as Contrology. As a certified Classical Pilates instructor, I teach the method exactly as it was created—honoring its integrity, structure, and purpose.
This approach emphasizes the foundational principles of Pilates: Control, Precision, and Concentration. It’s not just about how you perform each exercise, but also the order, the transitions, and the flow—each movement prepares your body for the next, creating a seamless and progressive workout. This intentional structure helps prevent injury, maintains alignment, and builds both strength and endurance over time.
If your body isn’t yet ready for the full expression of a movement, modifications are made to meet your unique needs—always with the goal of progressing safely and effectively.
Mat work—Pilates performed without equipment—is the foundation of the method. The same core principles are then applied to the Reformer, Wunda Chair, and Cadillac, all of which I use in the studio to enhance and deepen your practice.
